The Pennsylvania businessman was sworn into office alongside the rest of the U.S Senate on Friday.
On Friday, the first day of the 119th Congress, Dave McCormick was sworn in as Pennsylvania’s newest United States Senator.
McCormick, a former hedge fund CEO, ousted incumbent Bob Casey after three terms in the Senate.
Casey lost by about 15,000 votes, which triggered a legally required statewide recount. Casey refused to concede until after the recount, when he eventually gave the race to McCormick over two weeks after Election Day. This was McCormick’s second campaign for U.S. Senate.
McCormick served in the U.S. Army during the Gulf War. He was Under Secretary of the U.S. Treasury during George W. Bush’s administration and later served as CEO of Bridgewater Associates. He resigned to run for Senate during his first campaign in 2022, when he narrowly lost the Republican nomination to Mehmet Oz.
On Friday on Capitol Hill, McCormick was sworn in as Pennsylvania’s highest-ranking Republican. As McCormick left the chamber after his swearing-in, his wife Dina Powell and his daughters waited for him in the hall. “You can call him Senator now!” Powell said.
McCormick said he felt “gratitude and responsibility” upon being sworn in as U.S. Senator. “I feel touched by it. Honored,” he said.
