Democrats Target 22 Pennsylvania Legislative Races Ahead of November Election

The targeted races are among the most competitive across the country as Democrats seek to regain power in Harrisburg.

The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee recently identified 22 key state races in Pennsylvania as “Target Races” ahead of November’s general election.

According to a press release, DLCC Target Races are the most competitive, must-win races across the country. Democrats are seeking to take power in Washington and in Harrisburg back from Republicans this fall.

“We’ll be with our Target Race candidates every step of the way between now and November to ensure strong campaigns are ready to flip seats and build new majorities in states across the country. The DLCC is only just getting started as we gear up to target over 500 races across the country,” said DLCC president Heather Williams.

In Pennsylvania, Democrats have the majority in the state House by just one seat at 101 to 100. The DLCC has targeted 17 districts across the Commonwealth to attempt to keep the party in control in Harrisburg.

Of the 17 targeted districts, seven are currently held by Democrats and ten are held by Republicans that the DLCC hopes to oust.

In the state Senate, the DLCC is targeting five seats to attempt to flip the chamber to Democratic control. Republicans hold the majority at 27 to 23.

“Pennsylvania is one of the toughest battlegrounds in the country, and the DLCC is going all-in to capitalize on this once-in-a-generation opportunity to build durable Democratic power in the state,” Williams said.

According to the committee, it will work with Target Race candidates to support their races. The DLCC will devote significant resources including data, research, polling, paid communication, and direct voter contact to try to elect Democratic candidates in November.

“Republicans have been put on notice that the DLCC is on offense to transform the landscape of state legislative power for years to come,” Williams said.
