Today marks National Voter Registration Day, a nationwide effort to boost voter participation.
In Pennsylvania, voters have until October 21, 2024, to register to vote online, by mail, or in person at different locations. Today’s events aim to raise awareness about the importance of participating in this year’s voting process. Colleges and universities throughout the state are hosting activities to verify registration status and assist first-time voters.
To cast a ballot in Pennsylvania, individuals must register at least 15 days prior to the election. Registration can be completed online, via mail, or at various government offices, including the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) for those obtaining a photo license or driver’s license.
Eligibility requirements to register in Pennsylvania include:
- Being a U.S. citizen for at least one month before the next election.
- Residing in Pennsylvania and the election district where you plan to vote for at least 30 days before the next election.
- Being at least 18 years old on or before election day.
Those who have recently changed their address can easily update their voter registration online.
The official online registration portal for Pennsylvania voters can be found on the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s website.
Additionally, today also marks Constitution Day, commemorating the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787 by the 39 delegates at the Pennsylvania State House, now known as Independence Hall. The Bill of Rights Institute is offering free pocket constitutions for classrooms upon request.
