Rabb won a crowded Democratic primary for the deep-blue Philadelphia district.
The results are in. Chris Rabb is the winner of the Democratic primary for Pennsylvania’s 3rd Congressional District.
Incumbent Rep. Dwight Evans announced his retirement, setting off a crowded race to replace him in Congress. The winner of the primary is the expected winner in November. There were no Republican candidates in the race.
Rabb beat state Rep. Sharif Street and Dr. Ala Stanford in this week’s primary.
He earned about 45% of the vote share, while Street fell behind at less than 30%. Stanford had less than 25% of the vote.
Running as a progressive candidate, Rabb secured the endorsements of the Philadelphia Democratic Socialists of America and the Working Families Party. He activated a substantial grassroots campaign.
He was also endorsed by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.). She traveled to Philadelphia to campaign on his behalf.
Rabb appeared at the Victorian Banquet Hall in Philadelphia’s Germantown neighborhood to celebrate his victory in the primary.
“I have been critiqued along this campaign for being too radical, being too bold. They ain’t see nothing yet. This is just the beginning because I see you. I see you. I know what we’re capable of. I see your beauty. I see your power,” Rabb said after his victory was announced.
“They told me this wasn’t possible,” Rabb said during his primary victory speech. “That’s what they said. I don’t know who they are, but I know who we are.”
Street conceded to Rabb at around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.
Rabb has served in the state House of Representatives since 2016. He has been focused on racial justice, government reform, and economic policy.
On the campaign trail, Rabb trained his focus on abolishing ICE, expanding health care, and opposing U.S. aid to Israel.
