Christmas Holiday Traffic in Pennsylvania: 207 DUI Arrests, 1,500 Speeding Citations

The Pennsylvania State Police released a report from the 2025 Christmas holiday travel period.

On Wednesday, the Pennsylvania State Police released traffic enforcement and crash statistics from the 2025 Christmas holiday travel period. The data reveals enforcement data between December 24 and 28.

Over that time period, the State Police investigated 1,007 vehicle crashes. Four of those crashes resulted in six total fatalities

For 53 of the crashes, impaired driving was identified as a factor in the crash.

State troopers arrested 207 individuals for driving under the influence over the course of the five-day Christmas holiday weekend.

According to the report, troopers issued 1,502 citations for speeding, 155 citations for failing to wear a seatbelt, and 10 citations for failing to secure children in safety seats.

In 2024, the State Police traffic enforcement data was compiled over a three-day Christmas holiday travel period.

State Police investigated 598 vehicle crashes, with 27 being related to impaired driving in 2024.

For the 2024 Christmas holiday travel period, state troopers arrested 128 individuals for driving under the influence.

State troopers issued 805 citations for speeding, 90 citations for failing to wear a seatbelt, and 13 citations for failing to secure children in safety seats during the three-day travel period in 2024.

In the press release on this year’s statistics, State Police clarified that this data comes from State Police traffic enforcement alone. Other law enforcement agencies responded to incidents over the Christmas holiday travel period that are not included in the recently issued State Police report.

The enforcement statistics come as Governor Shapiro allocated $15 million to support traffic enforcement across Pennsylvania.
