The former President continues to blitz Philadelphia and its suburbs with another rally in the heart of Northeast Philly.
Former President Trump will hold a campaign rally at Temple’s Liacourus Center on Saturday starting at 7:00 PM according to his website.
In a press release announcing the rally, the campaign says the event “will highlight how Biden’s weak presidency is devastating American families, which is why only 34 percent of Pennsylvanians approve of the job Joe Biden is doing.”
The rally comes as recent polling shows Trump making significant inroads with Black and youth voters, both statewide and in the city of Philadelphia. The Trump campaign seems to recognize these inroads and is making it a key part of the campaign strategy, with this being the former President’s second event in Philadelphia this year following his speech at Sneakercon in February.
The rally will mark the first time businessman Dave McCormick, the Republican nominee for Senate in Pennsylvania, will attend a Trump rally since being endorsed by the former President earlier this year.
The event sparked, mostly online, outrage with social media users expressing their frustration that the university is willing to host Trump.
In response to the backlash, Temple President Richard M. Englert issued a statement arguing Trump’s appearance at the on-campus Liacourus Center was being managed by the venue’s third-party owner and was not an endorsement of the former President by the university.
“The presence of any speaker on campus is not an endorsement from Temple University, just as the views expressed by any speaker do not necessarily reflect those of the university’s administration, faculty, staff, or students. Temple will continue to be a space for open dialogue and the exchange of ideas integral to the election process.”
