Musk’s America PAC helped elect Donald Trump, now he has a new focus.
After facing off in the courtroom during the 2024 election, billionaire Elon Musk and Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner may now meet at the ballot box soon. A new report from the Washington Post claims Elon Musk is seeking to be the ‘George Soros of the right’ with plans to financially support challengers to Soros-backed district attorneys across the United States.
Musk emerged in 2024 as a new player in American politics. In the wake of the assassination attempt on now-President-elect Donald Trump in July, Musk endorsed Trump with a post on his social media website X saying “I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery.” Following this endorsement, Musk created the ‘America PAC’ to support Trump’s candidacy.
Financial reports show that Musk spent over $200 million during the 2024 cycle, with most going towards outreach focused on low-propensity and first-time voters. One strategy his PAC pursued was a lottery that gave $1 million to a random registered voter across several swing states who signed a petition in support of free speech.
Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner filed a suit in October to shut down the sweepstakes under Pennsylvania law. He was ultimately unsuccessful with Common Pleas Court Judge Angelo Foglietta writing in her opinion that “DA Krasner failed to provide any evidence of misuse beyond mere speculation.”
Now, with Krasner having already expressed interest in running for a third term in the upcoming 2026 midterm elections, Musk looks to be interested in taking the fight to Philly’s DA.
Last month Elon promoted a post on his social media platform X in which he tagged the handle of his PAC and took interest in 6 ‘Soros-backed’ prosecutors up for reelection in 2025/2026.
During Donald Trump’s election night victory party, Trump advisor Brooke Rollins asked from the podium, “Where is the George Soros of the right?”, referring to Elon.
Even going back to before the Trump endorsement and his overt political involvement, Musk took an interest in George Soros’ political strategy. In a post on X from last year he wrote “Soros figured out a clever arbitrage opportunity. The many small political contests, such as DAs & judges, have much [sic] higher impact per dollar spent than the big races, so it is far easier to sway the outcome.
Over the past decade-plus, Soros and groups linked to him have backed prosecutors across the country who campaigned on progressive ideals and policies. Krasner was one of multiple District Attorneys to receive financial support for George Soros during the 2020 election cycle.
