On Saturday, a bullet fired at a Trump rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania narrowly missed seriously harming the former President.
Shots rang out at Former President Donald Trump’s rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania. Video footage shows the former President raising his hand to his ear, which was grazed by the bullet. Trump and spectators ducked to the ground while Secret Service agents responded and shielded the former president.
As Trump was escorted from the scene by his security detail, he stopped to raise his fist towards the crowd in a now viral image with blood on his face and the American flag behind him.
There was one civilian fatality as a result of the shooting. Corey Comperatore used his body to shield his wife and daughter as bullets were fired. The 50-year-old former fire chief was from Buffalo Township, Pennsylvania.
Two others were injured during the shooting, David Dutch of New Kensington and James Copenhaver of Moon Township. Both have been listed in stable condition as of Sunday.
The shooter has been identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. He was killed by Secret Service during the attack. The FBI is carrying out an investigation into the motives of Crooks, who is believed to have acted alone. He had bomb-making materials in the car he drove to the rally.
On Sunday evening, President Biden addressed the nation from the Oval Office. Biden condemned the assassination attempt and urged Americans to “cool it down” as election tensions run high. “It’s not American. And we cannot allow this to happen,” he said. “Unity is the most elusive goal of all, but nothing is more important than that right now.
