Gov. Josh Shapiro to Release Memoir “Where We Keep the Light” Detailing Career

“Where We Keep the Light: Stories from a Life of Service”, a memoir by Governor Josh Shapiro, is set to be released by Harper, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers on January 27th of next year.

The memoir will focus on the governor’s life and political career, as well as the recent arson attack on the governor’s residence by Cody Balmer.

In the memoir, Shapiro “shares powerful stories about his family, his faith, and his career in public service,” according to Harper.

“Gov. Shapiro reflects on what he has learned along his journey, knocking on doors, serving his community, and bringing people together to tackle the tough problems we face,” said Tuesday’s announcement by Harper.

Shapiro, 52, was elected as Pennsylvania’s governor in 2022. He was on former Vice President Kamala Harris’ shortlist as a running mate in last year’s presidential election.

The governor has also been mentioned as a possible Democratic presidential candidate for 2028.

In April, a man set the governor’s mansion on fire in an attack that nearly caused the death of Shapiro, his family, and their guests who were sleeping inside the residence. Cody Balmer pleaded guilty last week to charges of arson and attempted murder. He was sentenced under a plea deal to 25 to 50 years in state prison.

The attack is expected to be mentioned in Shapiro’s upcoming memoir.

His political involvement spans his entire career, from his time as a staffer on Capitol Hill, to a commissioner in Montgomery County, and then to Harrisburg as a state representative, attorney general, and now governor.

Shapiro has touted his administration’s role in bringing Democrats and Republicans together to “Get Stuff Done” in a divided state government. The state’s budget was due on July 1st and is still not complete. Parts of Pennsylvania are feeling the impact of lacking state funding.
