Former President Donald Trump was recently convicted of 34 felony charges. Anti-Trump messaging sponsored by a Republican group is sprouting up around Philadelphia and surrounding areas.
Last month, former President Donald Trump was convicted of 34 charges in a scheme to illegally influence the 2016 election through an alleged hush money payment to a porn actor. Trump has continued to campaign, with a sentencing date set for July 11, just days before the Republican National Convention.
In the aftermath, Republican voters are faced with a convicted party nominee in the upcoming presidential election. Many voters are uncomfortable voting for Trump, and some GOP groups have spoken out against him.
In Philadelphia, one such GOP group has targeted the city with anti-Trump billboards to convince voters not to cast their ballots for Trump. The group, Republican Voters Against Trump, is funding “I Won’t Vote for a Convicted Felon” billboards to go up in the city this week.
The idea behind the billboards is to convince any unsure voters not to vote for Trump in the upcoming election. The messaging will be more convincing to those voters, as it is coming from a Republican group that may have supported him in previous elections.
Robert Nix, featured on some of the billboards, said “We’re not gonna change any MAGA minds. But in a race this close, any small amount helps.” Nix voted for Nikki Haley in the Pennsylvania primary even though she had dropped out of the race.
Even with President Biden’s recent visit to Philadelphia, recent polls show Trump is leading in the state at 47 percent.
