Millbourne Borough Official Charged with Election Fraud

Delco District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer charged a Millbourne Borough official with election fraud.

Millbourne Borough Council Vice President Mohammed Nurul Hasan has been charged with election fraud by Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer. Hasan is charged with 48 offenses related to the alleged fraudulent voting scheme, specifically for falsely registering more than 30 people to vote and casting ballots on their behalf during the 2021 mayoral race in the borough.

In a statement, Stollsteimer said, “The bedrock principle of democracy is free and fair elections. Millbourne Borough Councilman MD Hasan violated that principle in 2021 by studding the ballot box with illegal votes in an effort to win higher office.”

He added, “Today, thanks to an exhaustive joint investigation [led] by my office and our partners at the FBI, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and the Delaware County Bureau of Elections, he is being held accountable for his criminal acts.”

Hasan ultimately lost the election to Millbourne Mayor Mahabubul Tayub by about 30 votes.

He is also facing federal charges alongside two other borough council members.  A federal grand jury indicted the three men in February for conspiracy and other election fraud charges.

Delaware County Elections Director Jim Allen said a scheme such as this is “exceedingly rare”.

He said in a statement, “I view this as evidence that investigators are not going to let passage of time or the lack of an impact on the election result prevent them from pursuing the case, however long it takes.”
