Governor Shapiro Quietly Tries to Derail Democratic Candidate Chris Rabb

Rabb is currently supported by Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Recent reports show that Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro is attempting to derail Democratic Congressional candidate Chris Rabb – and is doing so quietly.

Rabb has been endorsed by Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in the race. She has fundraised for him and is expected to make an appearance in Philadelphia to campaign on his behalf.

Rabb is running in a competitive three-way Democratic primary.

He is a current state Representative that has raised significant funds in the race, running as a progressive candidate. He brought in nearly $385,000 between January 1 and March 31 of this year.

Reports indicate that Governor Shapiro and his team have privately told allies that he disapproves of Rabb’s candidacy and has taken steps to block his path.

Additional reports say that Shapiro has privately advised Philadelphia’s building trades unions to avoid supporting Rabb in the race.

Rabb has previously spoken out against Shapiro, including at a protest outside of the governor’s first stop on his book tour to criticize his approach towards Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The protest was held to push the governor further to the left on ICE policy in the Commonwealth.

Rabb, the lone progressive in the race, has referred to Ocasio-Cortez as “the progressive standard bearer of this generation.”

“This is yet another D.C. story more focused on clicks than the reality on the ground in Pennsylvania,” said spokesperson Manuel Bonder in defense of Shapiro.

“The governor has not endorsed or opposed anyone in this primary — and he looks forward to working directly with whoever wins in November. Gov. Shapiro is focused on flipping Republican seats and winning up and down the ballot in November,” he continued in a recent statement

Whichever candidate wins the Democratic primary is likely to win the general election in the deep blue district that leans heavily to the left.

Shapiro has not endorsed a candidate in the competitive Democratic primary race.
